Worst Customer Service ever - and that's saying something

i love Agatha Raisin so was well pleased to see Acorn was coming to the UK - except that now I've signed up I can't see it on any browser!!! I've tried every fix they suggest and lots they don't - and then started to complain, so we are now into double figures on emails - but they are useless at responding. The last email I sent was on 7/6 demanding that they just close the account please before we all lose our minds, and got an unhelpful standard email which said they were really busy and to bear with them - but nowt since! In the meantime they continue to take my fiver, because I'm blocked from getting on the website to cancel the subscription!! A situation even Escher would be proud of.

Rubbish

Signed up for free trial and then found out that it will not work on my TV. The TV is a new Samsung. Their website states that it will not work on new Samsung TV's. This should be made clear before signing up.
I have now seen the poor reviews about this company, wish I had seen them prior to signing up.
Total waste of time, don't bother !!!!!

So disappointed

We just love British comedy and detective stories. With grate anticipation we bought our year subscription just to be absolutely disgusted at what they provide for South africans. We can not find any of the classics- midsummer murder or Hercules Piorot Agatha Christy. After watching Foyle's war and seeing the Indian doctor and a mini series, i am yet to find any entertainment. It absolutely leaves a bad taste in my mouth! What a waste of money. They paint a lovely picture. Advertising all of their stunning series just to leave as SA out in the cold.

Programmes stopped playing.

Here in New Zealand I had Acorn.TV for two trouble-free years and really enjoyed their programmes. My favourite streaming service by far.
BUT then the videos refused to play via a hdmi cable from the chromebook to the TV. Other streaming services I have play fine using this set-up.
I discussed the situation for months with Acorn.TV but without resolution. Suggestions they made like a new hdmi cable were expensive and did not solve the problem.
I really miss their fabulous unique programming and wish I could watch more.

No support for Linux

I subscribe for a on year service. Two weeks after joining Acorn changed their streaming service with a new DRM and I could no longer stream the programs. I informed their customer service that I use Linux and that their DRM change has made it impossible to stream their content using any available browser. For over a month I have had email exchanges where each reply ignored the Linux issue and only suggested fixes like using the latest browser versions, upgrading my HDMI cable and other Windows related fixes. They refuse to take any responsibility for the problem caused by them for Linux users and refuse to refund any of the subscription fee. They have not offered any solutions for Linux systems and apparently are not concerned about the loss of service to the many Linux subscribers. If you run Linux, don't even think about paying Acorn for any service.
Update: On 4/15/2 Acorn agreed to refund my subscription fee after informing them I would take legal action if necessary.

Total con!

I signed up for this as I wanted to watch A Place to Call Home. I'd watched seasons 1-2 on Amazon Prime and signed up to acorn as it offered the whole series. Watched season 3 and then... you have to pay to watch the rest on top of your subscription. Toal rip off. Lousy customer experience - and the picture quality was poor. Shame on you!

Really poor customer service!

Really poor customer service!
I’m a busy new mum and joined a free trial that I clearly remember cancelling. However I have been charged for a month (on a Friday) and it showed up on mY bank account on a Monday so I contacted customer support and they said they cannot issue a refund because it’s been 2 days since I was charged. They offered me a free month to pacify me but if I didn’t want a free trial so 2 months is out of the question.
My experience was really tricky to unsubscribe.
Lots of unwritten rules about refunds and cancellation
Very unhelpful customer care.
AVOID!

Problems caused by upgraded streaming

With out any prior notification Acorn TV upgraded the service and now I can not watch. For the last month I have been "playing" their game of how it has to be on my end since I watch on a desktop computer. I logged into a business computer that the whole system was updated less than a year ago and guess what it doesn't play on it either. So that tells me without a doubt that it is not my computer it is the streaming service. I paid for a year subscription in December and only got to watch for 2 months before the changes made in February so i am out 10 months of a 1 year subscription. They refuse to give a refund when the fault is their own changes that made it so I can't watch. UPDATE: After 17+ emails and 3+ weeks I did get a refund.

I can't answer re the prime way. I had free prime for a short time and when I checked out their acorntv service I saw that in addition to the monthly payment there are certain series that charge extra for episodes. That is the main reason I don't have prime, all the extra charges.
I have acorn on my roku, don't really have streaming issues with that. Sometimes the cc when going back to a paused episode. Only issue is their idiotic new format. But learned to deal.
Basically, I recommend roku, not prime.
